The Intersection of the Pandemic and the Opioid Epidemic

October 8, 2020 @ 1:00 pm 2:00 pm

As part of the Georgia Health Policy Center’s yearlong 25th anniversary celebration, we invite you join us for the speaker and film series event, Dreamland: America’s Opioid Epidemic and How We Got Here with author Sam Quinones.

Award-winning author Sam Quinones will share the stories from a memorable cast of characters to paint a complete, systems picture of the root causes of the deadly opioid epidemic and how communities can overcome it.

Interweaving the narratives of pharmaceutical pioneers, young Mexican entrepreneurs, narcotics investigators, overdose survivors, and parents, Quinones paints a gripping picture of how the catastrophic wave of opioids overtook many of America’s cities. By understanding how and why the epidemic came to be, the discussion can turn to a systemwide antidote — how agencies and organizations can work across siloed systems for innovative and lasting solutions.

With support from the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, the Lewis College of Nursing, and the School of Public Health at Georgia State University, and the CDC Foundation.

This event is free and open to the public.

Registration coming soon.
